July 24 – Day 74 – Monday

July 24 – Day 74 – Monday

Psalm 84:11
For the LORD God is a sun and shield:
the LORD will give grace and glory:
no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

To illuminate, invigorate, and warm; to protect and defend all such as prefer him and his worship to everything the earth can produce.
To pardon, purify, and save the soul from sin: and then he will give glory to the sanctified in his eternal kingdom; and even here he withholds no good thing from them that walk uprightly. Well, therefore, might the psalmist say, Clarke’s Commentary

“O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.”
Psalm 84:12

Our morning was cloudy, grey and raining,
not hard but consistent until about 1:00pm.

Then the Farmer went out and puttered around the Church property,
trimming, raking and weeding.
Activities high on his want to do list.

I left about 11:00 for Tempe, AZ
(which is like Elk Grove to Carmichael)
and had lunch with my cousin, Trisha Topper.
We haven’t been together very much as adults
so it was a getting to know you – becoming friends.
My Favorite kind of time.

I found a Wholefood’s in Tempe and bought ice cream.

I went on a thimble hunt in Chandler, AZ
(Tempe to Chandler is like Carmichael to Fair Oaks)
and had success at Merchants Square

The black dot marks the hiding place.

See the sun burst design, that is on the Arizona flag.
ANNND, see the waffles – I didn’t make it to the Waffle House,
maybe next time.

A little necessary shopping at the outlets
about 32 miles north and east from Chandler,
I’m not sure any thing is close in Phoenix area.

Home again, Home again

watching this beautiful sunset and

enjoying my dinking around day,

Sequence was on the agenda again.
we started 39 the Farmer to 37 the Grannie

I won all the games until the last one
the Farmer ended the game with his 1st win of the evening.

July 19 – Day 69 – Wednesday

Psalm 78:6-7
That the generation to come might know them,
even the children which should be born;
who should arise and declare them to their children:
That they might set their hope in God,
and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:

These were commanded to the fathers – the patriarchs and primitive Hebrews, that they should make them known to their children, who should make them known to the generation that was to come, whose children should also be instructed that they might declare them to their children; to the end that their hope might be in God, that they might not forget his works, and might keep his commandments: that they might not be as their fathers, but have their heart right and their spirit steadfast with God, . . . We hadn’t been on the road very long when the Farmer
realized his left-extended mirror was missing.
We stopped at 2 auto part type stores in Santa Rosa

In a Municipal Park at Santa Rosa

no, mirror

Not much is happening when even the billboards are bare.

Then we began to see these

Cline’s was going on in a big way since 1934

If you want to visit Cline’s
it’s at Interstate 40 and Hwy 285

And they are polite.
We didn’t stop.

On to Albuquerque, on Central Avenue
an RV supply had what the farmer needed;
he installed one right there in the driveway.

Driving on down Central on a thimble hunt

at Antique Specialties, our first stop,
I found this little gold pretty one

I had remembered NM as dry, dirty and depressing.
This thimble will remind me that my memories are not always accurate.
I was pleased out find I was mistaken.

I’ve enjoyed the desert of New Mexico.

Rocky New Mexico
We have to admire the tenacity of the first travelers
through this unfriendly country,

At 3:51 pm, we crossed the Continental Divide.

USA RV park was
asphalt and gravel,
neat and clean and
all units parked close together doors facing,
(First itme for that arrangement)

My view
Time to do laundry again,

Later I found a neat night sky.

The Morning and Evening of the sixty-ninth day.

July 15 – Day 65 – Saturday

July 15 – Day 65 – Saturday

Psalm 74:12-13,15-17
For God is my King of old,
working salvation in the midst of the earth.
Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength:
thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters.
Thou didst cleave the fountain and the flood:
thou driedst up mighty rivers.
The day is thine, the night also is thine:
thou hast prepared the light and the sun.
Thou hast set all the borders of the earth:
thou hast made summer and winter.

Psalm 75:1
Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks,
unto thee do we give thanks:
for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare.

**********************************************************
the Farmer got up at his normal time,
I got up earlier than normal because
we have many miles to go until we sleep.

About 25 minutes after we go on the road

we met Texas

yard art

golden corn as far as the eye can see

Texas street signs,
no names just numbers, large numbers

Mineola, Texas is one neat town!

found in the free parking lot for the town.

First, it is the home of

Stitchin’ Heaven, a quilt shop,
where I have purchased many dollars worth of fabric and quilt kits,
was one of the first stops I put on our journey.
I don’t think I’ve finished a quilt from them,
but I am still alive, so there is hope.
I got to walk through the doors
and breathe deeply of that one-of-a-kind odor, new fabric.
I wandered all around the shop a couple times,
(it’s a good thing this shop is not located
within 50 miles of Sacramento)
picking up odds and ends of quilty stuff and
next Thanksgivings jigsaw puzzle.
When we are finished with the puzzle
it goes to my mother.

This magnet -boot on white- will go on my fridge –
I know you can’t believe it.

Secondly, it has more antique stores in the 2 X 3 block area
than in any town we have visited.
What a place for a thimble hunt.

First shop we entered = Nestfeathers, drool,
a darling shop, the owner is a quilter!

Cute quilty stuff, no thimble.

Second shop – Between Friends
found homemade cookies
must keep up my strength for hunting,
found a special gift for ‘T’
No thimble, but received a map of the town
with circled possibilities.

Third shop – Karen’s Korner

Aunt Jemima was waiting to go to California!
I’m getting hungry for pancakes.
Kyle and Autumn get ready for brunch!

We did all this in less than two hours!

On to Oklahoma!
Some pruning needs to be done on their sign,
too bad they don’t have a Farmer.

Even the smallest town across the states
have one or more pizza parlors and

a subway either free standing or in a gas station.

As we neared Oklahoma City
we could see the clouds darkening
and rain in the distance.
We drove right through this afternoon storm.
Temperature before the storm in the 90’s,
after in the 70’s with a nice breeze.
This doesn’t happen often,
usually it just gets muckier after a storm.

Arrived at Roadrunner RV Park
just before the office closed.

Again my view isn’t exciting,
but sitting quietly knitting in a cool breeze was a treat.

The Morning and Evening of the sixty-fifth day.

July 14 – Day 64 – Friday

July 14 – Day 64 – Friday

Psalm 73:23-24
Nevertheless I am continually with thee:
thou hast holden me by my right hand.
Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel,
and afterward receive me to glory.

. . . we are continually upheld by thee; and while in thy right hand, we shall not be utterly cast down.
. . . Thy counsel – thy Word and Spirit, shall guide me through life; and when I have done and suffered thy righteous will, thou wilt receive me into thy eternal glory. Clarke’s Commentary

6am in Arkansas
Probably the prettiest sunrise I’ve ever seen
but, of course, I haven’t seen a great deal of sunrises.
I’m really good at seeing sunsets.

Later when I got up for the day

The first route Micosoft Streets and Trips chose
would have us leave Arkansas about 11:00am-
but I chose a longer drive in AR to hunt thimbles.
We stopped at Crossett, AK – Nope.
We stopped at Strong, AK, 1st shop – nope

2nd shop had about 1-18 thimbles in a bowl.
I pawed through them and found

a metal thimble with a snowman and show flakes,
it reminded me of all the times
the Farmer said, “Don’t want to live here.
There’s a snow plow in the yard
or still hooked up to the pickup.”

We drove the business 82 loop
around Eldorado, AK,
looking for something
besides McD’s or KFC, no luck.

So drove on south to Louisiana

I wish I had a dollar for every time we saw this sign

before a bridge like this.
It would really help with the gas expense.

Even flags sometimes feel like this,
but it is still a flag.

At Rustin, we found lunch ,
a good catfish platter with onion rings for me
and a grilled veggie plate for the Farmer.
I took home a serving of bread pudding,
but I’ve been spoiled by Alyce’s Bread Pudding,
should have saved my $.
On the next block was a closed antique store
and an open Fabric Shop.

So Louisiana’s thimble is brand new,
no history, no memories,
never-been-used thimble.
this style I’ve never seen before.
It’s kinda pretty and I was tired.

It is the only one that will go in my thimble box
that might get used.

At Shreveport KOA RV park
we discussed Saturday’s drive,
it will be our longest driving day, I think.
And we discussed when to do our grocery shopping,

at 7:30pm we left to find a Whole Foods Market
25 minutes away, the Farmer shopped.
Then we went down the street to Krogers’
where I shopped.

My view

The Morning and Evening of the sixty-fifth day.

July 13 – Day 64 – Thursday

July 13 – Day 64 – Thursday

Psalm 71:14
But I will hope continually,
and will yet praise thee more and more.

I shall expect deliverance after deliverance, and blessing after blessing; and, in consequence, I will praise thee more and more. As thy blessings abound, so shall my praises. Clarke’s Commentary

Did I say we camped by the train?
I didn’t look at the clock so I’m guessing,
but THREE trains went by between 6 – 8 o’clock!
Loud and long.
The roar of the A/C couldn’t drown those whistles out.

I had spied an Antique Mall
on the way to camp,
so first thing a thimble hunt.

I SPY!
A little metal one

with a raised clipper ship on the side

and a compass on the top.
How cool is that!

A perfect reminder of our visit
with the Saints at the ‘Ol’ Ship of Zion’
with the compass pointing straight toward Heaven.

I can hear Sis Joy Nice
” I’m Glad I’m on Board! Are You?”

Arrived again in Mississippi
without crossing a river.
Many states borders are rivers.

We hunted for a thimble for Mississippi
with Google’s help.
The towns we went through were small
and devoid of Antique Shops.
Finally in Greenville, I came up with
1st one – we couldn’t find even with directions,
found out later the directions were wrong.
This is not the first time this has happened.

2nd one was in a cute house in a residential neighborhood
with not room for parking a sub and a trailer.

we did see

pastures

cornfields

a darling little house
with a sunflower in front

and the Mississippi River

So we just went on in Arkansas

to Pecan Grove RV Park.
i tried on more time with Google
‘Greenville, MS, antique mall’
Bingo, Greenville Mall.
‘Can we try one more time?’
the Farmer unhooked the trailer
and we drove 25 minutes back into Mississippi.
Greenville Mall was just that – a mall.
‘Why not try the little house,
since we don’t have the trailer to park?’
the Farmer agreed,
the good man that he is

The door was locked.
the Farmer used the intercom,
‘My wife is looking for a thimble.’
‘We don’t have any, but wait’
Cheryl let us in and I explained my need.
No thimbles.
Cheryl ‘the ex-seamstress had some,
let me check to see if she left any’
No thimble.
Cheryl ‘ I have a thimble.
I use it when I make tassels,
let me see if it has a design’

It was just a’ plain jane’ useful thimble.

Kind-hearted Cheryl ‘you can have it, if you want it.’

I could have purchased one just like it
at Walmart or Joann’s
but not one of those would be filled with generosity.
Thank you Cheryl

We drove back to Arkansas and slept sweet.

The Morning and Evening of the sixty-fourth day.
